Medical Update 2

Photo: Stained glass window within the second floor chapel of the Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC):

Late last year, as I had previously blogged about earlier this year, I had been hospitalized for a full two weeks at the CVMC, here

More recently, due to the overly intense and quite severe acute as well as oftentimes chronic pain being experienced, I went to the emergency room and had been admitted.

It appears that this could possibly be another prolonged hospitalization;  including due to needing to assess and putting in place a different pain management plan, run tests as well as undergo an upcoming aggressive palliative radiation five day treatment course -- which is taking place at the UVM Medical Center Cancer Treatment Center located in Burlington, where I am currently located and likely will remain for nearly a week or so before returning to CVMC.

Had been transported from CVMC to the UVM Medical Center via the Barre Town Ambulance service.

As I understand it, with prep (including receiving a small targeting tattoo) and a practice run the day prior. Then, afterwards, a series of chemo treatments and the like, all of which I have consented to doing this time around.

It is my understanding that the severe pain being experienced is occurring as a result of the malignant cancerous tumor having grown and continuing to grow and so on,

The room here at the UVM Medical Center is actually more like a suite, of sorts, however it's particularly good as well as sorely needed when undergoing treatment for malignant colon cancer while attempting to get better and heal.

It's a comforting, quiet, nice, peaceful and rather peaceful as well as serene space with which to attempt to rest and try to get some sorely needed sleep. A respite.

In the meantime, while I am in the hospital, as was the case the last time, Miss Cleo is being cared for by two kind and cat loving neighbors.

In addition, should the need arises, if need be, Cleo will also be looked after by another cat loving neighbor who had previously agreed to take Miss Cleo if and when it becomes necessary at some point down the road, including adopting her should she needs to be rehomed.

After having recently inquired about whether there had been a determination made about how long I might have left to live, the oncologist informed me that I could have from three months up to a year, provided I undergo palliative radiation as well as chemo treatments, which as stated above, I have already consented to doing.

As had been the case up to now, I have an extensive, deeply caring as well as empathic and kind support network and team of folks who have been helping me in a wide variety of ways, including visiting me whether at home or while in the hospital.

For this, I have been and shall always remain highly grateful to everyone involved.
